_________Strengthen Our Sisters is located in Passaic County, in northeastern New Jersey and, in addition to our many homes, we have two computer skills schools - one for adults and one for teens, we have a law clinic, we run a licensed day care center http://sosdv.org/childcare.html and we have two thrift stores http://sosdv.org/treasures.html.
_________Strengthen Our Sisters' transitional housing is home for people while they gain job training, life skills, employment, education, legal protection, parenting classes and safety support networks. We provide transportation in vans to jobs, school, doctors, court, child visits, training, and activities.
_________ At Christmas, some of our neighbors and neighborhood organizations gave the residents much appreciated and needed parties with Santa and gifts. The families of Windsor School donated diapers, in every size - new through pull-ups - and wipes. A couple from Bergen county even came on the 24th with gifts for each woman and child so that they all had stocking stuffers!

Here's a bit of information on Strengthen Our Sisters' programs.
We were founded and are executive directed by Sandra Ramos who in the 1970s founded the first shelter for battered women and their children in the United States, in Hackensack, New Jersey. Sandra teaches Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Social Issues, and Women's Changing Roles at both Ramapo College and William Paterson University.
Strengthen Our Sisters runs 8 residential locations providing emergency shelter and transitional housing to 170 women and children, 2 job training schools (one for adults, one for teens) and 2 thrift stores for our residents and for others in the community, and many other services including day care, case management, transportation and cultural events. When people do obtain their own apartments we move them in our vehicles and we pass on furnishings to them so we are in continuing need to reload all items people need in our facilities - everything from potholders, microwave carts, pillows and bunkbeds, to vehicles, etc, etc!
